Exercise doesn't have to be expensive

Exercise, like anything else in life, has its barriers. Sure, we can all say 'just get out and run', assuming there are always free ways to get active, and to an extent, that is true, but even a good pair of trainers come at a cost.

But free exercise does exist in the form of callisthenics, which involve body-weight exercises, such as push-ups, sit-ups and so on. But such exercises are not always engaging enough for people to stick to every day, and that's understandable. After all, exercise needs to be fun and engaging for people to stick to it in most cases.

So, what other cheap ways are there to exercise? Ask most personal trainers which is the one piece of equipment they would recommend for any beginner to get started, and they will tell you it is a resistance band.

Why? They are dirt cheap. You can get a pack of resistance bands for less than less than €10/£10/$10, and it can unlock a range of fun resistance exercises that can help people reduce body fat and get active, not to mention there are a whole host of physio-type exercises that can be done for strengthening injuries.

The bands are so accessible and so easy to use that they are perfect for all levels, usually coming in a variety of resistance weights. They allow you to add some of the benefits of a gym at your home, and you can even travel with them to stay active while you are on the move.

Is your budget a little bigger? For around €20 or a little less, you can get resistance bands, again in a pack of varying weights, with handles to take your band exercises to the next level. As you can see in our recent Instagram post video above, there are basic exercises that anyone can do with handled resistance bands, which usually come with a door stop to allow you to take your exercises to the next level.

Still not satisfied? For around €30, there are TRX-style bands available, which are a little different in nature. They are firm suspension bands that allow you to use body weight for exercises, usually attaching them to a pole or a door, depending on your location.

Again, for a cheap investment, these bands allow you to turn your home into a gym without the need for heavy dumbbells.

The best part? With all three of these banded options, people can achieve significant results when used regularly and effectively. Being cheap and effective, bands remove another barrier to exercise for people of all levels. Give them a try, and if you need any advice on how to best use them, you know where we are.
